The design of this brooch is based on one of the principal features of the Bishops Palace Chapel - the wall-painting of the Virgin and Child, known as the Chichester Roundel. It was painted sometime between 1225 and 1250 and is one of the finest examples of English wall-painting. The picture shows Jesus and Mary looking lovingly at each other, surrounded by angels swinging censers.
This brooch (which may also be worn as a pendant using your own chain or cord) is hand enamelled. The brilliant colours come from the same vitreous enamel (hard- fired glass) as used by fine jewellers like Faberge and Lalique. Finished with 22 ct. gold plate, and brooch pin with a safety clasp.
